Reforming Dad’s Drinking Habits

January 9th, 2010

Dad hadn’t been feeling well for some time, but he kept refusing to go see our family doctor. Finally, Mom took matters in her own hands and made an appointment for him. The doctor, who has known us for years, was aghast at Dad’s appearance and made no bones about expressing his disapproval of our father’s significant weight gain. “You need to lose beer gut now,” he admonished Dad. “If you keep going this way, I’ll be working on your heart, and your knees, and who knows what else in a few months.” My Dad was quite taken aback by the doctor’s sternness, but I think he knew Doc was right. He’s trying harder now to lose weight, and he has given up drinking completely.
