The Gift of Standards

My mother, self-proclaimed socialite that she is, loves a good garden party. As such, she adores a nice wicker outdoor furniture set. In fact, she is quite the outdoor furniture critic. She can determine the wholesale value of a wicker chair, loveseat, or table just by sitting looking at it. This may not seem all that impressive to someone who is unfamiliar with my mother, but she is nearly blind. In fact, she only retains even a fraction of her sight in one eye. I find it fascinating that even her utter lack of sight cannot keep her from turning her nose up if something doesn’t meet her very high standards. It’s somewhat inspiring.
