Webhosting Services for Technical Website Needs

I was talking with a good friend of mine who works in the IT department at a large medical facility. I was asking for his advice on a new website idea that I had for my small company. I told him about the products that I planned to sell on the Internet and that I would probably need a custom shopping cart instead of the standard checkout process is found on most websites. My friend gave me the name of a few webhosting services and suggested that I check them out. He suggested that I be very careful in choosing my hosting service because of my technical needs.
